Tiger Lacey was a motocross champion who dominated the sport in the 1990s. He was known for his fearless riding style and his ability to push the limits of what was possible on a dirt bike. However, in the early 2000s, Lacey abruptly disappeared from the motocross scene, leaving fans and fellow riders wondering what had happened to him. Motocross, also known as “MX,” is a dirt-bike racing sport where riders compete on off-road terrains such as gravel, mud, or grassy paths. The challenge in motocross extends beyond competition with fellow racers, as the course itself presents significant obstacles to overcome.
Tyson “Tiger” Lacey passed away on New Year’s Eve one year ago. Shortly after publishing last year’s column, we learned that the well-liked and swift racer from the Northwest had died following a short illness. Lacey fell ill upon returning from an international racing trip and was diagnosed with viral meningitis, which he ultimately did not survive.
At 31 years old, Tiger left behind his wife Dana and their one-year-old son Lynx. A memorial gathering of several hundred people took place at Roseland MX Track on January 4 to honour this exceptional rider from the Northwest.
Dana expressed her love for Tiger on a GoFundMe page created to support her and their young son: “My husband was the best daddy and an awesome person—the love of my life. I will always cherish our memories filled with laughter and happiness.” She added, “All I can tell people is Ty travelled the world; he lived his dream.”
